At GoaLine Orthodontics, Dr. Parks and our team are here to help you reach your GOAL—a beautiful smile! We go out of our way to help you have an amazing orthodontic experience because we genuinely enjoy helping people. After all, you’re the most important part of our practice!
Eating with Braces
When it comes to eating with braces, we usually say you can eat anything you want as long as you are smart about it and careful. Small bites, eating slowly, and preparing things a little differently can make all the difference.
Take care when eating:
- Chewy foods — bagels and licorice
- Hard foods — nuts and crunchy granola
- Foods that require biting into — corn on the cob, apples, and carrots (cut these up into small, bite-sized pieces!)
Brushing and Flossing
Brushing is essential when you have braces. Brush your teeth for two minutes after every meal with a soft-bristled, small-headed toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste. As an alternative, you can use a powered toothbrush to increase your brushing effectiveness.
People love water flossers—and they’re a great tool—but they don’t take the place of real floss. We recommend flossing at night so your teeth are clean while you sleep. With braces, flossing is a little more challenging. Floss picks for braces can be very helpful on the go. And we love proxabrushes for cleaning between the brackets!
Dealing with Discomfort
When you first get your braces, you may notice that your teeth and mouth feel a little tender or sore. This is perfectly normal and we promise your mouth will not be sore forever! Discomfort should be taken care of with anti-inflammatories and/or analgesics such as Advil or Tylenol. Eating a softer diet is also helpful while the teeth are sore.
If your appliance or a part of your braces breaks, you should call our Frisco orthodontic office so that we can address it remotely or get you in for an appointment. As long as you are not in pain, it is usually possible to wait until the next business day to repair a broken bracket or wire.
The Finish LINE
Having braces removed is an exciting milestone in every orthodontic patient’s journey. We love seeing the difference that we make in the lives of our patients and take pride in providing convenient service using the latest technology.
At GoaLine Orthodontics, getting your braces off is fun and easy. We polish the teeth then take a 3D scan of them before printing a 3D model in-house. We use the 3D model to make your retainer quickly and conveniently. You can even keep the model as a lifelong souvenir! And last but not least, we will put on a turkey referee hat and let you pick some candy or popcorn from our GoaLine concession stand!
